Diesel Fuel Conditioner

We've noticed that VW drivers use a diesel fuel conditioner. They claim a 10% improvement in gas mileage and better winter starts. VW recommends Stanadyne One Shot Performance Formula All Season Diesel Fuel Conditioner. Has anyone tried this in their smart?
